BADGES
The Guide program is made up program areas and theme badges that we work towards in our unit meetings, camping badges that we work on at camp and Discovery badges that Guides can work towards on their own.
Program Areas
Our program has 8 areas; Guide Together, Be Well, Into the Outdoors, Build Skills, Explore Identities, Take Action, Experiment and Create and Build Skills.
Each Program Area is divided into three themes. Once a Guide earns two of the themes for a program area, she also earns the Program Area. Guides need to earn all 8 to earn their Lady Baden-Powell Challenge Award.
Theme Badges
There are 24 Theme badges, 3 for each Program Area. Guides work on activities at each of our Guide meetings, outings and camps. Guides complete 8 or more activities in each theme to earn the badge.
When a Guide earns two Theme badges from the same Program Area, she also earns the Program Area.
Discovery Badges
There are 13 Discovery badges; Adventurer, Animal Lover, Artist, Camper, Experimenter, Foodie, Girl Champion, Inventor, Leader, Maker, Mindful Mover, Planet Protector, and Volunteer.
Discovery badges can be earned together at a meeting or Guides can work on them on their own. They are designed to be flexible to reflect each Guide's personal interests. A Guide who is interested in animals might want to learn about caring for a pet, taking action to save an endangered species, explore ways to help an animal shelter or learn what it takes to become a vet.
Guides need to plan, connect, do and share to earn the badge. First they plan what they want to make, try or do to earn the badge. Then they connect with a woman leader or role model in their area of interest. Next they do the activities they planned. Finally they share their experience and new found skills with a Guider and/or our unit.
Camping Awards
There are 3 Camping Award badges Guides can earn; Camp Out, Basic Camper and Experienced Camper. Guides work towards earning these badges during camp adventures that include one or more nights away from home.
Earned Challenges
As a unit we will work on earned challenges during meetings. These special challenges will include activities that can also be counted towards a Theme badge. Challenge crests can either be worn on the badge sash or on a camp blanket.
Ready to Test for a Badge?
Guides can test for badges at most of our regular meetings. Email the Guiders to let us know which badge(s) you are testing for and include any pictures or videos of your work. Then bring in your badge work and come prepared to tell us all about it!
